சென்றதினி மீளாது மூடரே!
நீர் எப்போதும் சென்றதையே சிந்தை செய்து
கொன்றழிக்கும் கவலையெனும் குழியில் வீழ்ந்துகுமையாதீர்!
சென்றதனைக் குறித்தல் வேண்டாம்
இன்று புதிதாய்ப் பிறந்தோம் என்று நீவிர்
எண்ணமதைத் திண்ணமுற இசைத்துக் கொண்டு
தின்று விளையாடியின் புற்றிருந்து வாழ்வீர்;
தீமையெலாம் அழிந்துபோம், திரும்பி வாரா. – பாரதி

கடைசியாய் இருப்பதே

கடைசியாய் இருப்பதே பிடித்திருக்கிறது
யாரும் பின்னுக்குத் தள்ளாமல்
எத்தனை பேர் வந்தாலும்
தக்கவைத்துக் கொள்வதில்
தகராறு இல்லாமல்
போட்டி இல்லாமல்
சலனமற்று ஆழ்ந்திருக்க உதவுவதால்!
நின்றிருக்கும் நீள் வரிசையையே
வட்டமாக மாற்றத் தெரிந்து கொண்டால் யார் கடைசி?
யார் முதல்?

புத்தகங்களே! குழந்தைகளைக் கிழித்துவிடாதீர்கள்

பித்தன் மழைக்காகப் பள்ளிகூடத்தில் ஒதுங்கினான்.

குழந்தைகளின் கையிலிருந்த புத்தகங்களைப் பார்த்து
புத்தகங்களே சமர்த்தாயிருங்கள் குழந்தைகளைக் கிழித்துவிடாதீர்கள் என்றான்
அவன் மேலும் சொன்னான்...குழந்தைகளே பாடப் புத்தகங்களாக இருக்கிறார்கள்
அவர்கள் கையில் ஏன் காகிதக் குப்பைகளைத் தருகிறீர்கள்?
உங்கள் புத்தகங்கள் கண்களைத் திறப்பதில்லை
ஊற்றுக் கண்களைத் தூர்த்து விடுகின்றன
காகித ஓடங்களை நம்பி இருப்பவர்களே!
நீங்கள் எப்படி அக்கரை போய்ச் சேர்வீர்கள்?
இதோ! இரவு பகல் என்ற ஏடுகள்உங்களுக்காகவே புரளுகின்றன
நீங்களோ அவற்றைப் படிப்பதில்லை
இதோ உண்மையான உயிர் மெய் எழுத்துக்கள்உங்கள் முன் நடமாடுகின்றன
நீங்களோ அவற்றைக் கற்றுக் கொள்வதில்லை
ஒவ்வொரு பூவும் பாடப் புத்தகமாக இருப்பதைநீங்கள் அறிவதில்லை.
நீங்கள் நட்சத்திரங்களைப் படிக்க கற்றிருந்தால்
உச்சரிக்க முடியாத எழுத்துக்களில் அதிகமான அர்த்தம் இருப்பதை அறிந்திருப்பீர்கள்
நீங்கள் மின்னலின் வாக்கியங்களை வாசிக்க முடிந்திருந்தால்
ஒளியின் ரகசியத்தை அறிந்திருப்பீர்கள்,
உங்களுக்குக் கண்ணீர்த் துளிகளைப் படிக்கத் தெரிந்திருந்தால்
நீங்கள் மனிதனின் சாரத்தை அறிந்திருப்பீர்கள்.
எழுத்துக்களால் அல்ல காயங்களால் கற்பதே கல்வி என்பதை அறிந்து கொள்ளுங்கள்.
உங்கள் புத்தகங்கள் விளக்குகளாக இருக்கின்றன.
சூரியனைக் காண விளக்குகள் தேவைப்படுவதில்லை.
எனக்கென்னவோ முரணாக சொன்னாலும்
இன்றைய நாளில் அதுதான் உண்மையோ என்று தோன்றுகிறது.

Mother – First Teacher At Home

Any child to start with, learns saying “Amma” /”Ma”. Mother is the only word which one likes to fix in one’s memory with great enthusiasm and happiness. One can measure anything in terms of money but cannot measure a mother’s love and affection. Mother has been given a prominent place in our culture.

Mother is symbol of love and an embodiment of compassion and sympathy. She is the only person with whom one can confess mistakes, miseries, difficulties, pleasures and privileges. Mother never seeks anything from her children except their well-being. She ignores the faults of her children. If the children attain name and fame her joy knows no limit.

She always teaches moral stories and good habits to her children. Mother is called the “first teacher” at home. If anyone is not taking care of his mother or parents, there is no purpose in his existence. If one has reached a top position in an organization or in a profession, it is needless to state that his mother has influenced his thoughts and helped him attain success in life.

நல்லதோர் வீணை செய்தே - அதை நலங்கெடப் புழுதியில் எறிவதுண்டோ?

சொல்லடி சிவசக்தி - எனைச் சுடர்மிகும் அறிவுடன் படைத்துவிட்டாய்.

நசையறு மனங்கேட்டேன் - நித்தம் நவமெனச் சுடர்தரும் உயிர்கேட்டேன்,

தசையினைத் தீசுடினும் - சிவ சக்தியைப் பாடும்நல் அகங்கேட்டேன்,

அசைவறு மதிகேட்டேன் - இவை அருள்வதில் உனக்கெதுந் தடையுளதோ?

Thiruvalluvar a weaver, wrote in the most difficult of Tamil makers a religious and philosophical work - the KURAL - expounding moral and political ideals- Dr. Will Durant

It is refreshing to think that a nation which produced so great a man Thiruvalluvar) and so unique a work (KURAL) cannot be a hopeless, despicable race. The morality he preached could not have grown except on an essentially moral soil- Rev. Dr. J. Lazarus

He (Thiruvalluvar) throws the purity of Bunyan's English completely into the shade. No known Tamil work can even approach the purity of KURAL. It is a standing rebuke to the modern Tamil. Thiruvalluvar has clearly proved the richness, melody and power of his mother tongue- Rev. J. Lazarus

The poet (Thiruvalluvar) in fact, stands above all races, caste and sects inculcating a general human morality and worldly wisdom. Not only the ethical content of the book but skill with which the author gives his aphorisms, a poetical setting in a difficult metre have evoked admiration- Dr. A. A. Macdonell
